Privacy Policy
Last Updated: 6/12/2026
1. Introduction
GapGrid ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share your personal information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). GapGrid is a social coordination engine designed to help you organize your free time with friends.
2. Information We Collect
A. Registration Data
When you create an account, we collect your phone number (via WorkOS authentication), a unique username ("handle"), and a profile photo. This information is used to identify you to your friends on the Grid.
B. Calendar Data (Read-Only)
To help you visualize your free time, GapGrid requests read-only access to your device's calendar. We do NOT store your event titles, descriptions, or locations. We only process "busy blocks" (start and end times) to identify gaps in your schedule. This processing happens locally on your device whenever possible.
C. Location Data
We collect your location data to enable local matchmaking features ("Sparks") and to show you relevant activities nearby. Precise location is used to determine which "Geohash" (neighborhood grid) you are in.
D. Contacts
With your permission, we sync your phone contacts to help you find friends who are also using GapGrid. We use hashed identifiers to match contacts while preserving privacy.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the Service and connect you with friends.
- To identify mutual free time ("Sparks") between you and your connections.
- To send you push notifications about relevant coordination opportunities.
- To improve and maintain the Service.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We share your information only in the following circumstances:
- With Friends: Your availability (gaps) and profile are visible to users you connect with, subject to your privacy settings.
- Service Providers: We use trusted third-party services (e.g., Google Firebase, WorkOS, Convex) to host and run our infrastructure.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
6. Your Rights
You can delete your account and associated data at any time via the settings in the GapGrid app. You may also modify your privacy preferences to control who sees your activity.
